operations, rarely does the connection between these innovative technologies and their impact on the environment come to mind. Even in the technology sector we tend to think of data—the new “oil” of the Information Age—as having no physical form and therefore no tangible impact on the environment. This could not be further from the truth. If data is the new oil, then data centers are the refineries that sustain the entire cloud computing industry and fuel carbon emissions from the telecom sector.
